West Bloomfield is a chartered Township in Oakland County, Michigan. It is located just north of the city of Detroit. On April 22, 1833, Bloomfield Township was divided into two sections, the western portion was called West Bloomfield due to its many apple orchards, all in “bloom” The trees were so plentiful an island in the area became known as “Apple Island” and the body of water was known as “Orchard Lake.” West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake Village, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake make up the neighborhoods in West Bloomfield.
