Whether you have an entire room available or just a corner, an improved work from home space can help with productivity and make the experience more enjoyable. Antique desks look wonderful in a moody library-type office, while modern and minimal desks look fantastic in brightly lit rooms. After you have the perfect desk, you should think about the color palette. It’s best to choose colors that calm and focus the mind, such as blues, greens, and grays. Finally, construct the space to have ample storage, whether that’s through hanging shelves or desk organizers.
Enhanced outdoor areas
Since 2020, outdoor gatherings have been taking place regardless of the season. That means a few plastic chairs outback is no longer cutting it, and enhanced outdoor areas are gaining popularity. When upgrading an outdoor space, consider how you will use it. An outdoor bar may be heaven-sent for some, while a brick oven or large table for serving guests may be a high priority for others. If the backyard space is simply that – a yard – adding a patio is a great upgrade (and will deter muddy shoes while entertaining outside).
Decked out kitchens
Cooking at home is having its renaissance moment, leading more and more people to take a look at the kitchen in which they are cooking. If the idea of painting both the upper and lower cabinets makes you blanch, consider painting just your lower cabinets. This method anchors the kitchen space without overwhelming it. Or, opt for a brightly colored tiled or patterned backsplash. Incorporate the backsplash colors elsewhere in the kitchen. Think cabinets or plates in a similar shade.
Increased color
Color does not have to be limited to the kitchen and is, in fact, on-trend throughout the home. Repainting the main living area walls in a fresh and lively shade is an excellent way to bring more color into the house. Wallpaper is also an option, as the pattern adds a fun visual texture to the space. For furniture, opt for different colors than the typical browns and taupes. Perhaps green velvet couches or a bright blue loveseat? Colorful and patterned throw pillows, art pieces, and curtains will complete any room and make it beautiful and bright.
Naturalistic living spaces
Many people are experiencing heightened anxiety due to the pandemic, so creating zen spaces in the home is on-trend. Stick to natural materials, such as wood and cotton, in your relaxation room. Additionally, you should go for pale woods, such as bamboo or white oak, as they can bring a spa-like quality to the space. Then, introduce greenery, either literally through plants cascading down a shelf or subtly through a green couch. If you want your bedroom or living room to feel more natural, consider incorporating a floral or nature-based wallpaper.
